The Terriers remained organised and compact throughout, keeping back-to-back clean sheets and making it four points from the last six on offer.
Here are the match ratings from the John Smith's Stadium.
Jonas Lossl, 7: Preston failed to have a shot on target but the Terriers stopper commanded his area well with the visitors biggest threat coming from corner kicks. Poor goal kicks in stoppage time added some unnecessary pressure.
Trevoh Chalobah, 7: Called upon to play at right-back in a surprise move by Danny Cowley. Dealt with Preston's physicality well.
Christopher Schindler, 8: One of Huddersfield's best players. Made two vital interventions in either half to preserve the clean sheet.
Richard Stearman, 7: Was very vocal, kept organised alongside Schindler.
Harry Toffolo, 7: Struggled to keep track of Brad Potts in the opening stages but came into the game well after a shaky start.
Jonathan Hogg, 8: Another one of the Terriers key men in the contest. Making his 300th career league appearance, Hogg's experience and leadership shone through.
Lewis O'Brien, 7: Anchored the midfield alongside Jonathan Hogg. Had the game's only shot on target.
Elias Kachunga, 6: Failed to make a big impact, substituted at the break.
Alex Pritchard, 6: Pressed well but was unable to do much going forward with Preston dominating the ball.
Fraizer Campbell, 6: Was subbed at half time with manager Danny Cowley revealing he was not fully fit.
Karlan Grant, 6: Was moved to the left-hand side for the second game running, struggled getting forward, like much of Huddersfield's attackers.
