Huddersfield Town 2 Exeter City 0: McCombe and Rhodes on target for Terriers

Simon Grayson saw his new Huddersfield Town side climb into third place in League One after victory over Exeter, writes Robert Gledhill.

Grayson named an unchanged side for his first match in charge of Town.

However he brought Icelander Joey Gudjonsson, who had been frozen out by previous manager Lee Clark, onto the bench.

In an entertaining and free-flowing first half, strikers Alan Lee fluffed Town’ s best chance by heading wide from seven yards.

However, they took a 40th minute lead when Jamie McCombe headed home from a free-kick.

Gudjonsson replaced Antony Robinson and Lee Novak came on for Lee in the 64th minute.

Jordan Rhodes headed home seven minutes later but was ruled offside.

Rhodes was not to be denied and chipped the goalkeeper in the 85th minute to make the game safe, as Town leapfrogged Sheffield Wednesday, who do not play until Sunday.
