Huddersfield Town 4 Swansea City 1 - Terriers blow Swans away in seven hectic second-half minutes

AFTER nine games without a win, facing a team who had only lost one of their last 12 looked a daunting prospect for Huddersfield Town.

However, the Terriers blew away visitors Swansea City with three goals inside seven hectic minutes early in the second half to claim a much-needed three points.

It has been an unwanted theme of Town's season that they have failed to win so often after scoring the first goal.

They took the lead through Fraizer Campbell - his sixth of the season - but were pegged back on the stroke of half time by a wonderful free-kick from Conor Hourihane.

But fears of allowing another winning position to turn into a defeat had vanished by the 55th minute.

First, Lewis O'Brien finished a brilliant move with a shot from the edge of the area which flew into the bottom corner and out of Freddie Woodman's reach via a slight deflection.

Then, Duane Holmes took centre stage as he was played in by Aaron Rowe and fired the ball into the top corner from six yards for his first goal since returning to West Yorkshire.

The moment of the match swiftly followed as the USA international found the top corner with a delightful strike from just outside the penalty area.

It is Town's first win since December 29. Swansea had won nine of their last 12 games prior to the contest, only losing to Premier League leaders Manchester City in an FA Cup tie earlier this month.

Swansea's task became all the more difficult with an hour gone as they were reduced to 10 men when Jordan Morris was carried off on a stretcher after Steve Cooper had used all five of his substitutions.

No team has had a better defensive record than Swansea in the Championship this season. Prior to their trip to the John Smith's Stadium, the Welsh outfit had conceded just 15 times in 28 league games.

No side had managed to beat them by more than a two-goal margin while only Man City had scored more than two goals against them in all competitions this campaign.

But the form book was well and truly thrown out the window by the Terriers, who will now look to build as they face four of the sides in and around them in their next six games.

With the game finally poised in the first half, Naby Sarr made three big contributions in defence, blocking two dangerous shots and clearing another off the line.

Huddersfield did have a goal chalked off for offside before taking the lead and saw Juninho Bacuna's shot cannon off the post shortly after Campbell's opening goal.

Hourihane is one of the most threatening players from a dead ball in the Championship and showed his class with a whipping free-kick from the edge of the penalty area for Swansea's only goal of the game.

But fears of that goal giving Swansea the momentum soon disappeared as Huddersfield secured a huge win to put some welcome distance between themselves and the relegation zone.

Huddersfield Town: Schofield; Pipa, Sarr, Vallejo, Keogh, Rowe (Stearman 84); O'Brien, Hogg (Brown 84), Bacuna (High 79); Campbell (Phillips 72), Holmes (Pritchard 84). Unused substitutes: Pereira, Duhaney, Thomas, Crichlow.

Swansea City: Woodman; Bennett (Manning 58), Guehi, Naughton (Cabango 45), Roberts; Grimes, Hourihane, Bidwell (Whittaker 58), Fulton (Dhanda 58); Lowe (Morris 45), Ayew. Unused substitutes: Hamer, Latibeaudiere, Smith, Arriola.
