The 21-year-old, viewed as a signing with development potential for the future, has penned a contract until the summer of 2024, with Town having the option of a further year’s extension.

Thomas, who can play across all positions in the front three, has been earmarked to start his Town career in the club’s B side along with fellow January recruit Danny Grant, as he acclimatizes to his step-up from the fifth tier of English football.

Thomas, who started his career in West Ham United’s academy, made his Boreham Wood debut as a teenager back in 2017 and has gone on to make nearly 100 appearances for the club, who have twice competed in the National League play-offs.

Charlton made an unsuccessful move to sign him for a six-figure fee in October, with the player having been linked with moves to a number of Championship and League One clubs.

Town’s Head of Football Operations Leigh Bromby said: "We’re very happy to complete the signing of Sorba today, as there has been a lot of interest in him dating back to the summer window.

"Sorba has a lot of potential and many qualities that will fit the way we play, and this is a really positive acquisition for the club moving forward.

"The step from the National League to the Championship is a big one and we will take every necessary step to help him be successful. We will assess what is best for Sorba once he’s trained with us.

"He only needs to look at Josh Koroma as an example of the path he can take. Josh came from the same level, took time to adjust and improve and then made a massive impact on the Championship this season."

Thomas is Town’s third signing of the January window following on from the additions of Grant, from Irish club Bohemian and Newcastle United winger Rolando Aarons.
