HUDDERSFIELD TOWN head coach Carlos Corberan has revealed that striker Danny Ward has suffered a further injury blow in his stop-start season.

Ward came off with a calf problem in Town’s recent home loss to Millwall and will miss Tuesday night’s Championship game at Bristol City and Saturday’s home encounter with Stoke City.

It is an added disappointment for Ward, who had previously been affected by a serious hamstring issue following his return for a second spell at Town in the last close season.

He has made just 11 appearances this term.

On Ward, who has been earmarked to return to training next week, Corberan said: “Unfortunately, Danny cannot be with the team. When we changed (substituted) him after the (Millwall) game, he started to fill something in the calf and the pain in the next day was higher.

“We will start to work with him and have him after the game with Stoke City.”

Corberan has issued positive developments regarding his three injured centre-backs in Chris Schinder, Richard Stearman and Tommy Elphick.

Schindler, out with a knee injury since being injured late on in the 2-0 home win over QPR on December 5, and Stearman, sidelined with a hamstring problem sustained in the 3-2 victory over Middlesbrough on November 28, could return to training in three weeks time.

Tommy Elphick, missing with a long-term knee problem is also progressing in his rehabilitation and could be eased back into training in the next week or so.

Corberan added: “Schindler, Stearman and Tommy Epphick continue making their medical work.

“We expect to have Schindler and Stearman (in training) in the next two to three weeks, depending on their continued revolution (development).

“The progress of Schindler is very positive and the progress of Stearman is delayed a little bit, so maybe we can have both players close in the next three weeks.

“Tommy Elphick is going to start training with the group in the next week. Maybe once or twice per week and it is something positive too as I know it has been very hard for him to be out of the team for a long time.

“In the next three weeks, I think we can add some centre-backs to the training. Maybe not for games until the next five or six weeks.”

New arrival Duane Holmes will not be involved at Ashton Gate with the game arriving too early for the former Derby County player, who has rejoined the club for a second spell.

Corberan said: “He will start training tomorrow (Tuesday) by himself, so he can get ready for (full) training after the game.”
