Championship Tweets of the Weekend

Watford 1-0 Middlesbrough

Middlesbrough got their 2020/21 campaign off to a less than ideal start, with their lack of clinical finishing costing them dearly in a tight clash against the Hornets.

Mick McCarthy's punditry did little to improve the evening for this Boro fan!

Birmingham City 1-0 Brentford

The Blues shocked the Bees in their season-opener at St Andrews, as Jeremie Bela's precision header secured his side the three points.

Birmingham new boy Adam Clayton momentarily appeared to believe he had joined a rugby club, it seems.

Wycombe Wanderers 0-1 Rotherham United

The two promoted sides came face to face again in their first game of the season, and the visitors snatched a late win via Michael Ihiekwe's towering header.

Rotherham were in dreamland before the 3pm kick-offs got underway.

Huddersfield Town 0-1 Norwich City

Norwich City's mission to bounce straight back up to the Premier League started as they would have hoped, with an important win on the road against the Terriers.

This rather controversial tackle had Terriers and Canaries fans up in arms over whether it was/wasn't a penalty.

Barnsley 0-1 Luton Town

Crikey, how many 1-0s were there? This game was a bit of a stinker, but the Hatters managed to bag a win via James Collins' second half scorcher.

This Luton fan was in fine spirits at the final whistle:

Millwall 0-0 Stoke City

There were plenty of chances between the two sides at the Den, but neither side was able to find the breakthrough, and the game ended goalless.

You hit the nail on the head here, Jack!

Cardiff City 0-2 Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday slashed three points off their 12 point deficit last weekend, with a confident 2-0 win away to Cardiff City, with goals coming courtesy of Josh Windass and Jordan Rhodes.

The pre-match banter got a little tasty between Owls and Bluebirds fans...

Bristol City 2-1 Coventry City

Bristol City got past a pluck Sky Blues side to get their promotion push off to a solid start.

Jamie Patterson scored just 21 seconds into the new campaign, which isn't bad going.

QPR 2-0 Nottingham Forest

Despite losing key man Eberechi Eze to Crystal Palace, the Hoops managed to get the season off to a flyer, as they claimed a crucial win over Forest, who didn't get a single shot on target.

This brilliant tweet summed up Forest (and Derby's) struggles rather masterfully:

Derby County 0-2 Reading

Speaking of the Rams, they had a pretty rotten time of things too, as they were unable to recover from the Royals' quickfire double shortly before half-time.

We're not certain if Nathan Byrne's was the fastest ever debut yellow card, but it's got to be up there!
