The player ratings are in following Huddersfield Town’s dismal 4-1 defeat to Mansfield Town.
There was little for the Terriers to play for with the play-offs beyond reach and the Stags are also in the no man’s land between battles for promotion and survival. However, Nigel Clough’s side still managed to conjure up quality Huddersfield simply could not match.
The visitors took the lead after 15 minutes, doing so in a simplistic fashion that shone a light upon shoddy defending. Rhys Oates wriggled past Joe Low before crossing for Huddersfield academy product Lucas Akins, who drifted between blue and white bodies before prodding home.
Mansfield’s advantage was doubled before the interval, when Tyler Roberts’ drilled delivery across the face of goal was inadvertently turned in by Murray Wallace.
The Huddersfield fans who resisted the urge to head home at half-time had their patience tested again just six minutes after the restart. Regan Hendry was afforded acres of space and used it to pick his spot and unleash a thunderbolt into the top corner from distance.
Marcus Harness struck on the hour mark to reduce the deficit, but Mansfield’s three-goal advantage was restored just five minutes later. Oliver Irow darted in behind the Terriers backline and managed to squeeze past Nik Tzanev from a tight angle.
It was a miserable farewell to their home ground for the season and very few fans will be relishing the season finale away at AFC Wimbledon next week.
