Huddersfield Town: Powell confident in striking back-up options

Powell, whose side welcome Leeds United in Saturday’s West Yorkshire lunch-time derby, has just two recognised and fit strikers, as it stands, to count on in Nahki Wells and James Vaughan.

The Town chief admits he is seeking a forward ‘with Championship know-how’ to boost his numbers, but will not dive into the market and compromise on quality for the sake of getting an extra forward body in.

He says moving the likes of Scannell or Bunn up front could serve as an insurance policy and potentially buy him a bit of time until the right deal comes along.

Powell, who has seen back-up strikers Jon Stead and Martin Paterson depart this month, said: “It has not been to our liking as yet. But the group of players I have got have been doing exactly what I am after.

“I think it is more people are thinking that if we lose Vaughany or Nahki, then we could struggle.

“But if in the short-term, I have to use Sean Scannell, Joe Lolley or Harry Bunn, who is primarily a striker playing out on the left, then I will have to use them.

“Those are the contingency plans, but I do want to get some Championship know-how in the gorup up front.

“I know I will someone and wsomething across the line. Whether that’s by Monday at 11 o’clock, we’ll wait and see.

“Whether that is someone in the emergency loan window, then so be it.”

Powell confirmed that midfield anchor Jonathan Hogg is unlikely to be fit for Saturday’s clash with Leeds.
