Huddersfield Town sack Lee Grant: Kevin Nagle issues statement as League One club wield axe
Huddersfield Town have sacked Lee Grant as manager just under eight months on from his appointment.
The 42-year-old was handed the reins at the Accu Stadium in May, when he was unveiled as Michael Duff’s successor.
A goalkeeper in his playing days, Grant had coached behind the scenes at Ipswich Town but never previously managed a club.
The final straw for the Huddersfield hierarchy was a 3-1 defeat to Burton Albion that left the club sat sixth in the League One table.

Kevin Nagle issues statement
Huddersfield owner Kevin Nagle said: “Entering this season with renewed optimism and hope having proactively reshaped our first team throughout the summer, we were clear about not only our ambitions but how we wanted to achieve them, and the type of team on the pitch we wanted to enjoy alongside our supporters.
“Sadly, on current form, none of those objectives are being met, and with just under half of the season remaining we feel no other option but to make a change to put the side back on track.
“I would like to thank Lee for his efforts and wish him nothing but the best for his future career. Our previously stated aims and desires for the season remain the same, and we will be making a change with those ambitions still firmly in mind.”
Huddersfield Town’s struggles
Huddersfield have invested heavily in their squad since Grant’s appointment and Nagle has made no secret of his desire to see Huddersfield back in the Championship. However, the Terriers have not kicked on in the manner they were expected to.
Their loss to Burton left Huddersfield 10 points adrift of second-placed Lincoln City and 16 points behind table-toppers Cardiff City.

Grant had faced intense scrutiny from Huddersfield’s fans, who have been vocal in their criticism of his performance as manager.
Sporting director Chris Markham will lead the hiring process as Huddersfield look to install a successor.
