Huddersfield Town transfer latest: Barnsley FC target signs for Terriers
HUDDERSFIELD Town have dipped into the free agent market to sign striker Samson Tovide – beating off competition from several clubs for the former Colchester United player
The 22-year-old, a free agent after deciding to leave the U’s at the end of his contract, held discussions with a clutch of clubs including Barnsley.
The Londoner, who started his career at Leyton Orient, who penned a three-year deal with Town.
He featured 151 times for Colchester, scoring 21 goals. The U’s will receive some compensation due to Tovide’s age.

On plumping for Huddersfield, Tovide said: "This has been an important summer for me, and I’ve had a choice to make in which team I thought would be right to take the next step with in my career with and develop my game.
"In every conversation, it gave me huge confidence about coming to Huddersfield Town and I feel very blessed and honoured to sign for such a big club.”
A positive character endorsement regarding Tovide arrived from ex-Terriers midfielder Jack Payne when the club got in touch to speak about their interest in the player, who had been training with National League outfit Southend United, who were keen to sign him.
Town sporting director Chris Markham said: "Samson possesses a completely different profile to the players we have available to us in attacking areas at present, with the versatility to play anywhere across the front-line.
"He has age on his side and the type of raw talent and ability, paired with a strong work ethic, that we believe means we can work with him to reach his significant potential."
