'It's pretty clear' - Leeds United's Joe Gelhardt makes admission over future after Hull City loan

Leeds United's Joe Gelhardt makes admission over his future after Hull City loan

Leeds United’s Joe Gelhardt has strongly hinted he would like to remain at Hull City following his successful season on loan at the MKM Stadium.

Having barely featured under Daniel Farke at Elland Road, the 24-year-old was loaned to Hull in January 2025.

He enjoyed a strong end to the season with the Tigers and returned last summer when a season-long loan deal was struck. The versatile attacker was a key figure in a campaign that ended with promotion via the Championship play-offs, weighing in with 15 goals and five assists in the league.

Joe Gelhardt drops hint over Hull City future

Gelhardt has previously indicated he would like to stay at Hull and has again hinted he sees his future in East Yorkshire.

When asked if he would gladly pen a permanent Tigers deal, he responded: "It's a good question, isn't it? Let's see what happens over the summer, but it's pretty clear what I want to do.”

Gelhardt featured as a substitute in Hull’s 1-0 play-off final win over Middlesbrough but spent the bulk of the season as a starter.

His exploits have reminded fans why he was so highly-rated in his early days at Leeds, when many considered him to be the club’s most promising youngster.

Hull City’s promotion

Regarding Hull’s promotion, the Wigan Athletic academy product said: "It's amazing, it feels brilliant. To get back to the Premier League with Hull City, I love the club, I'm buzzing, I'm absolutely buzzing.

“It just shows what can happen in 12 months. Under the situations we had, with the embargo, we were always at a disadvantage; everybody had written us off, now we've proved everyone wrong, and now we're off to the Premier League."

Gelhardt is under contract at Leeds until the summer of 2027 but a return to the fold under Farke does not appear particularly likely.

Given how popular he has proven to be at the MKM Stadium, a permanent switch to Hull appears to be the next logical step for the ex-England youth international.
