The Tigers do not want the Championship season to be resumed as the Football League hope, and have said they will vote against short-term contract extensions for players, but if the votes go against them, they will be without the 24-year-old centre-foward.

Balogh's contract was due to expire on June 30, but both sides have decided to bring that forward.

The Hungarian impressed on trial in September and Hull had the option of triggering a 12-month contract but after just 57 minutes of football in three substitute appearances the Tigers announced they had “come to a joint agreement which sees him depart with immediate effect.”

Balogh suffered a serious calf injury on his debut at Nottingham Forest in October, and was an unused in the Tigers' last game before the coronavirus suspension, a 5-1 defeat at Stoke City.

Two points above the relegation zone, Hull have nine matches to play this season but hope to persuade their Championship colleagues against resuming the season, citing legal and insurance concerns were a player to contract covid-19 after the restart.

Dan Batty, Nouha Dicko, Markus Henriksen, Jackson Irvine, Stephen Kingsley, Eric Lichaj, Angus MacDonald, Robbie McKenzie, Kevin Stewart and Jon Toral are all out of contract at the end of next month, when Josh Bowler, Herbie Kane, Marcus Maddison, Matt Pennington and Mallik Wilks' loans will come to an end.
