Hull City sign six players in a day for second time this week as key figures pen new contracts

Less than 48 hours after a transfer window which saw 18 new players brought in – six on deadline day – closed, Hull City have shown their faith in those who got them into the Premier League with six new contracts.

For all the head-spinning influx of signings this summer, eight of the Championship play-off winning team from May started the opening-weekend 2-0 win over Manchester United, and all but the injured Matt Crooks played in the 1-0 victory at Coventry City.

On top of that show of faith, Crooks, Regan Slater, Oli McBurnie, Mohamed Belloumi, Charlie Hughes and John Egan have signed new contracts.

Slater, McBurnie, Hughes and Belloumi's new deals run until 2029, but the club have the option to trigger and extra 12 months in them, should they wish.

The same is true of Crooks and Egan, the two oldest outfield players in what is now a young squad. Their initial deals run until 2028.

Slater was due to be out of contract in the summer and former club Sheffield United made it know they were interested in re-signing him, but the Tigers exercised their 12-month option in his last deal to buy time. Once the Tigers won promotion to the Premier League, keeping him was always going to be easier, even with five new central midfielders being purchased this summer.

Slater's set pieces set up both goals against Manchester United.

Belloumi and McBurnie, last season's top-scorer, are also key members of the team, and have started the opening two league matches. It was Belloumi's through-ball to Liam Millar – since loaned to Birmingham City – which created the only goal of the game in Coventry.

Currently injured, Hughes is an exciting prospect at centre-back who Coventry were keen to sign last summer.

Crooks and Egan, who have played for Middlesbrough and Sheffield United, are not only important players but have been big dressing room leaders since moving to East Yorkshire at the start of 2025.
