With top-scorer Mallik Wilks fully recovered from the illness which meant he was only deemed fit enough for bench duty during Tuesday’s win over AFC Wimbledon, the Tigers boss has seven attackers vying for three positions up front.

Meanwhile, experienced Dutch defender Jordy de Wijs has been confirmed as available for selection following a two-game absence, meaning that McCann will have to decide whether to reinstate his former captain, or stick with youngster Jacob Greaves at centre-half.

The 20-year-old has deputised impressively in the heart of the City back-line, slotting in seamlessly alongside Reece Burke and helping his team record back-to-back clean-sheets during victories over Rochdale and AFC Wimbledon.

It is fair to say that Greaves has caught the eye of his manager.

“I’ve been really impressed ,” McCann said of the Cottingham-born defender, son of Mark Greaves, a player who made more than 200 career appearances for City around the turn of the millenium.

“It’s been brilliant to see him play these two games, and to play like he has done is testament to him. He’s looked very assured both in and out of possession and he won 100 per cent of his duels on Tuesday night, which is phenomenal. He’s been brilliant.

“It comes as no real surprise because we see him every day in training and we know what he’s got. He’s got all the capabilities to go on and have a tremendous career.

“He has the head of an old pro on young shoulders and can do a bit of everything.”
