Hull linked to Palermo star Abel Hernandez

HULL CITY are being strongly linked with a big-money swoop for Palermo’s Uruguayan international forward Abel Hernandez - with manager Steve Bruce revealing their move for Blackburn Rovers striker Jordan Rhodes is now ‘dead and buried.’

Bruce says the Tigers are close to one or two new additions before the closure of the summer transfer window on Monday, with one of the targets believed to be Hernandez, 24.

Bruce said: “We are close to one or two things; very close to one in particular, which would be another fantastic addition until we pull it off.

“But until it’s really, really rubber stamped then I’m not going to say much.”

Meanwhile, Bruce - who completed the capture of Tottenham centre-half Michael Dawson on Thursday - says the club have ended their interest in ex-Huddersfield forward Rhodes after seeing two bids turned down for his services by Blackburn.

Earlier this month, Bruce famously said the Tigers’ interest in Sheffiled United defender Harry Maguire was over, only to rekindle interest in the young stopper and sign him, but this time, it appears Bruce may have now switched striking targets.

On Rhodes, he said: “It’s dead and buried. It’s their prerogative.

Bruce says that he has no intention of loaning out Maguire, with speculation suggesting the Blades would be keen on taking the centre-half back if he was made available on loan.
