POLL: Davies left to reflect on a year of ‘failure’
Instead, the Hull City captain insists 2014 is, right now, associated with failure thanks to a tally of just seven wins from 37 league outings.
“Other than the Wembley trips it was quite flat, to be honest,” said the defender ahead of the New Year’s Day encounter with Everton.

“That is 21 points, plus the draws, and that is never going to be enough.
“We came into the year positively after a good first half to 2013-14 and got a few good results in the FA Cup, getting to the semi-final and the final. But we limped over the line in the league.
“Unfortunately, limping over the line in the league has carried on into this season. That has to change.”

A home defeat to bottom club Leicester City ensured the old year ended on a low and continued the club’s wretched record at the KC in the last calendar year.
Davies added: “This place was a fortress for us but last year we only won three league games (out of 18).
“We started the season playing some good stuff but we couldn’t get the results we wanted.”

“In terms of looking back on 2014, it is a very strange thing,” said Davies. “I had the best day of my football career in 2014 but it is always about the bigger picture.
“You can remember good wins against this team or that team but if it doesn’t contribute towards your overall campaign then it means nothing.
“It is frustrating but 2015 is a new year and we want it to get off to a good start against Everton.”
