A spirited run of performances has seen the Millers lose just twice in their last five Championship matches and has elevated the club to 17th in the table, while an eye-catching midweek win over Sheffield Wednesday means that they will go into the weekend with a renewed sense of self-belief.

Stoke look as if they will represent a significant challenge for Paul Warne's side, however.

Despite losing to Swansea City on Tuesday evening, the Potters have started the season brightly, and are just two points off the play-off places at this early stage.

And Prutton has admitted that he may have underestimated how much of a threat they will pose this season.

Writing for Sky Sports, the pundit said: “I think I've undersold Stoke a little this season!

"Despite a disappointing defeat in midweek they have been ticking along nicely under Michael O'Neill. They have a squad to be aiming for the top six.

"Rotherham got a great win in midweek against Sheffield Wednesday.

“They will always put up a fight, but I think Stoke should have too much.”

Prutton has predicted a 2-1 defeat for the Millers.

The last time the two sides met was during the 2018/19 campaign, when Rotherham were last in the Championship. Both fixtures that season ended in a 2-2 draw.

The last time United beat Stoke was in 2005, with a late Potters own goal sealing a 2-1 win.
