Hull City complete one deal, plot ambitious Championship raid for second

With the January transfer window just about at its halfway point, there are still plenty of twists and turns left on the horizon.

Hull City look to have really knuckled down in recent days, however, and this next fortnight could prove to be a busy one on Humberside.

The Tigers wrapped up a loan deal for Cardiff City winger Gavin Whyte on Thursday, and manager Grant McCann has high hopes for the Northern Ireland international.

He told the club’s official website: “Gavin will bring pace, energy and directness. He likes to get the ball and run at people,” McCann told the club website.

“We’re delighted he’s chosen us and he’ll get the fans off their sofas because he’s direct and likes to get at people.”

Whyte isn’t the only player who could be brought in to bolster McCann’s squad, however.

According to the Hull Daily Mail, the Tigers are in pursuit of Birmingham City midfielder Dan Crowley.

The 23-year-old has been deemed surplus to requirements at St. Andrews, and comes with a fine pedigree, having started his career with Aston Villa and Arsenal.

The promising talent failed to make much of an impact at either club, but still garnered an impressive reputation as a youngster, and clearly has a huge amount of self-belief.

Speaking to Goal after he left the Gunners, he said: “Do I think I’m good enough to still be at Arsenal? One hundred per cent. But there are no real regrets because that’s just the way I am. Every career is different.

“I am ambitious.

“I do massively believe in myself, I think I can be one of the best No. 10s in Europe.”

A seat at Europe’s top table is a long way off as he faces the prospect of a drop down to England’s third tier, but at 23, he still has plenty of time to make good on at least some of the potential he showed as a youngster.

Hull won’t have it all their own way when it comes to signing the player, however, with the Mail suggesting that several clubs are keeping tabs on him.
