The Tykes have won their last six on the bounce since being knocked out of the FA Cup by Chelsea in February, and a win this weekend could lift them into the play-off places.

By contrast, Birmingham are just three points outside of the relegation zone after drawing 1-1 with Huddersfield Town on Tuesday.

And Prutton sees more misery on the horizon for Aitor Karanka’s Blues.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: “What a run it has been for Barnsley. Six wins on the spin at this level is incredible, and they have so much momentum right now.

“Birmingham are out of the bottom three but it's still all very congested near the bottom. They have had a decent week and will feel more confident, but the Tykes are just too good right now.”

Prutton predicts a 2-0 Barnsley win.

A result of that nature could do wonders for Rotherham United too.

The Millers picked up a crucial win over Sheffield Wednesday in midweek, but face a tricky task against high-flying Brentford on Saturday.

Thomas Frank’s men lost their top of the table clash with Norwich City in midweek, but Prutton believes that the Bees will still have enough to sting United this weekend.

He said: “Brentford can't dwell on that defeat at Norwich for too long. They were probably just beaten by the better side at the end of the day.

"They can't let it turn into another mini-slump.

“What a win for Rotherham in midweek. The way they snatched it late at Sheffield Wednesday will be a huge boost to their survival hopes.

"They will go into this game with confidence, but I can't see them coming away from west London with anything.”

Prutton predicts a 2-1 Rotherham loss.

Elsewhere, the pundit also foresees trouble for Huddersfield against in-form Cardiff City on Friday night.

He said: “This is a tough one for Huddersfield. They picked up a point against Birmingham in midweek, but are still being dragged closer to the bottom three".

Prutton predicts a 2-0 Terriers defeat.
