The Tykes reaffirmed their promotion credentials by edging a dramatic five-goal thriller against Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon.

That result established a five-point buffer between themselves and the Cherries with 10 games left to play.

Wycombe also picked up a victory on Saturday, beating Preston in a hard-fought 1-0 win.

Those three points weren’t enough to lift Wanderers off the foot of the table, however, and they find themselves nine points adrift of safety with 10 games left to play.

Looking ahead to Wednesday evening, Prutton believes that their survival hopes will suffer another blow too.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, he said: “Wycombe are still battling away and I think everybody knows they won't give up on hopes of survival, however bleak the outlook may be.

"Though they are still rooted to the bottom, three points against Preston certainly provided a morale boost.

“However, I think it could be a case of right time, wrong opponent on Wednesday.

"Barnsley have been relentless in their pursuit to press on from mid-table and it's paying off as they are firmly in the hunt for promotion. In my eyes, the Tykes will extend their brilliant unbeaten run to 12 games at Adams Park.”

Prutton forecasts a 2-0 Barnsley win.

The Tykes have only ever lost once to Wycombe, slumping to 1-0 defeat in December 2018.

The last meeting between the two ended in a 2-1 Barnsley victory.
