Championship transfer news: Huddersfield Town player in demand, Barnsley in seven-figure blow

Bristol City are the latest club to be linked with a potential move for Huddersfield Town midfielder Alex Pritchard.

According to the Bristol Post, new City boss Nigel Pearson has identified the 27-year-old as a potential summer transfer target as he looks to strengthen his squad in the coming months.

Pritchard has struggled for game time with the Terriers this season, and his contract is set to expire at the end of the current campaign, meaning that he could be available as a free agent in the upcoming transfer window.

Whether or not Town will look to offer him an extension remains to be seen, but he has registered just six starts in the Championship this term, and is yet to score or register any assists for Carlos Corberan’s men.

Bristol City aren’t the only side to have been credited with an interest in the midfielder, with Football League World suggesting in a recent report that QPR are also keen.

Elsewhere, Barnsley must pay almost £1 million in compensation to Hull City after a tribunal favoured a claim from the League One club relating to the transfer of Angus MacDonald.

The defender is now at Rotherham United, but moved to the Tigers in a deal worth around £750,000 in January 2018.

His time in East Yorkshire was blighted by illness and injury, and Hull refused to pay the remaining £200,000 they owed the Tykes in November 2019 after claiming that they were not aware of the fact that MacDonald suffered from an iron deficiency.

Barnsley have been ordered to pay their Yorkshire rivals £958,716.94.
