Josh Sims has 'unfinished business' says Doncaster Rovers boss

DONCASTER ROVERS manager Darren Moore says that Josh Sims has unfinished business with the League One club after making his loan return.

The Southampton winger proved a major hit in his initial half-season loan at the club, which was cut short a few weeks early when he suffered a hamstring injury in mid-December which ruled him out for six weeks.

Sims, 23, is currently rebuilding his fitness at his parent club and is due to head back to Rovers next week - when he will be assessed as to when he is likely to be back in the first-team fray.

Despite his injury, it did not stop a number of clubs including several in the Championship from being interested in recruiting the Yeovil-born player, who is out of contract in the summer.

QPR were linked with a move earlier this month.

But Sims, who made 15 appearances in his first spell with Rovers - scoring three goals and providing three assists - has elected to return to South Yorkshire.

Moore said: “To have him back is a great testament to everybody in terms of him coming here. The first part of the loan and how it went has whetted his appetite and it was unfinished business when he left here.

“He has come back to try and complete it, which is great for us and we are really pleased to have him.

“He had lots of other interest with a lot of other clubs from the level where we are at and I am glad he has chosen to come back to us and allowed us to continue the work we have started with him and the season he has had thus far.

“It goes to show the hunger and appetite that Josh has got and we have given him the platform to showcase his talents. He has enjoyed the time he has had with us and how the club has welcomed him with open hands.

“At this part of his career, he just wants to play football and I am really just glad that we - as a football club - have provided that.

“Now that he is nearing back to full fitness, there was no hesitation in him coming back to us and no hesitation in welcoming him back. It is excellent news for everybody.”

Meanwhile, Moore is continuing to work towards bringing in another forward ahead of the deadline and is understood to be close to agreeing a deal.

He added: “Maybe we have just one more to go and then if we do one more, I think that will probably be that.”

Madger Gomes and Jason Lokilo and will be part of the squad for Saturday’s mouth-watering League One game at fellow high-fliers Lincoln City, while recent signing John Bostock is rated at ‘50-50’ with the midfielder being short of match-fitness.

Moore said: “John will be a last-minute decision really. He is looking really good, which is really pleasing and he has trained really well. We will have a chat and we will see how we go for Saturday.”
