Vickers was left without a club when he left Lincoln City at the end of last season. He had made 78 appearances for the Imps.

He trained with Rotherham during pre-season and has now filled the last spot on Millers' 25-man squad list.

The 24-year-old joined Lincoln from Swansea City, after coming through the ranks at Arsenal, and has signed a deal until June 2021.

"He came in during pre-season to train and he was spot on in training and fitted the group really well, but we already had our two goalkeepers that we were signing," explained manager Paul Warne.

“Obviously with Price leaving, we only wanted one person to come in and it was a no-brainer for us.

“He worked with Andy (Warrington) at Lincoln, so there was a common thread there, I think he was pretty pleased to work with Andy again.”

Price was set to remain with the Millers until the summer of 2021, but has opted to end his time with the club to seek an opportunity elsewhere.

He had been with the club since 2016 after leaving South Yorkshire rivals Sheffield Wednesday.

Price only made a handful of appearances at the New York Stadium but Warne hailed the goalkeeper's influence in the Millers dressing room.

“Pricey has been excellent, a great pro, always trained really well and when I called on him to play he did really well for us,” said Warne.

“I’ve got a lot of time for him as a goalkeeper, as an athlete, as a pro and as a man. He’s a really good bloke and I was sad to see him go but I couldn’t stand in the way of a great opportunity for him.

“Everyone contributes here and Pricey was definitely a contributor and that is why he stayed at the club for so long. His overall contribution to the football club was phenomenal.”
