League One and League Two awards joy for Barnsley FC midfielder and Doncaster Rovers winger

BARNSLEY midfielder Adam Phillips has been named as the Sky Bet League One player of the month for February, with Doncaster Rovers loanee Hakeeb Adelakun scooping the players' accolade in League Two.

Phillips, who scored key Oakwell doubles in victories against Derby County and Leyton Orient, while also registering three assists, beat off competition from Lincoln City's Reeco Hackett, Portsmouth forward Paddy Lane and Northampton Town midfielder Marc Leonard.

He is the second Reds' midfielder to pick up the gong in the last three months, with team-mate Herbie Kane winning the award in December.

"It was a good month for not just myself personally, but the team as a whole, and I’d like to thank them for their help and support.

"It’s up to us as a team now to continue the good momentum we have created and reflect on March as another successful month.”

Offering his thoughts, Reds manager Neill Collins said: "Phillo has been fantastic this month and deserves the accolade as recognition of his performances, along with the rest of the team who have consistently delivered in tough moments.

Meanwhile, Adelakun, who spent previous loan spells in Yorkshire at Hull City and Rotherham United, has made a big impact since joining Doncaster from Lincoln City on loan and has been duly recognised.

He was short-listed for the players' award after scoring three goals in February and providing four assists in an uplifting run for Rovers.

The 27-year-old beat off competition for the accolade from Walsall central defender Emmanuel Adegboyega, Crewe centre-half Mickey Demetriou and Newport County forward Will Evans.Rovers manager Grant McCann, who previously worked with Adelakun at former club Hull said: "The impact that Haks has made since his arrival has been tremendous and he is fully deserving of the recognition.

"You want players to hit the ground running when they come in and, having worked with him before, we were confident that he would do that.

"He's been a big part of our recent run of results and we're pleased to have him on board."

On his recognition, Adelakun commented: "It’s exactly what you want to happen when you join a club - just to get going straight away. It’s been great for me and it’s about continuing that now.

"I'm delighted to have won this award. It's the first one I've had in my career and it's special that it's come at a time when we've been on a really good run of results.

"There’s a good buzz around the place. We all see things coming together, the patterns of play that we’ve been working on, they’re coming out and it’s great to see."
