AFC Bournemouth hire Marco Rose as Andoni Iraola's successor ahead of Leeds United clash

Leeds United’s next Premier League opponents AFC Bournemouth confirm head coach appointment

Leeds United’s next Premier League opponents AFC Bournemouth will be led into the 2026/27 season by Marco Rose.

The Cherries have made excellent progress in the top flight but were recently rocked by Andoni Iraola’s decision to leave when the current campaign ends.

No time has been wasted in the hunt for his replacement and an agreement has been reached with Rose.

The 49-year-old was last employed by RB Leipzig, who he was sacked by in March last year. He had previously spent time in charge of Borussia Dortmund, Borussia Mönchengladbach, Red Bull Salzburg and Lokomotive Leipzig.

AFC Bournemouth confirm appointment

In a statement confirming Rose’s appointment, Bournmouth said: “AFC Bournemouth is delighted to confirm the appointment of Marco Rose as the club’s new head coach on a three-year contract, which will begin following the conclusion of the 2025/26 season.

“The 49-year-old arrives on the south coast with a wealth of experience at the highest level of European football, having managed Red Bull Salzburg, Borussia Mönchengladbach, Borussia Dortmund, and RB Leipzig.

“The club’s immediate focus remains firmly on finishing the current campaign as strongly as possible, with the players and staff continuing to show full commitment to achieving positive results and building on the current 13-game unbeaten run.

“Everyone at AFC Bournemouth looks forward to welcoming Marco to Vitality Stadium as he begins his role as head coach in the summer.”

Leeds United set to face AFC Bournemouth

Leeds will visit Bournemouth on Wednesday (April 22), but will facing a side led by Iraola.

A win for the Whites would be another significant stride towards safety, as well as another confidence-booster ahead of the club’s FA Cup semi-final showdown with Chelsea on Sunday (April 26).

15th-placed Leeds defeated rock-bottom Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-0 at the weekend, while Bournemouth were 2-1 victors over Newcastle United.

Leeds last locked horns with Bournemouth in September, drawing 2-2 with the Cherries at Elland Road.
