'Over the last two years' - Max Wober's admission over fresh start at Schalke 04 after Leeds United exit
Max Wober has discussed his fresh start after the end of his three-and-a-half-year spell at Leeds United
Max Wober believes he has made progress on the fitness front after sealing a permanent move from Leeds United to Schalke 04.
The 28-year-old has been plagued by injury in recent years and was limited to just three appearances on loan at Werder Bremen last season.
Leeds cut ties with the defender last week, enabling Wober to make a free transfer move back to the Bundesliga.

Max Wober feeling ‘better’
In an interview with Schalke’s official website, he said: “I now feel better than I did over the last two years. With my experience and my personality, I want to become a key figure in the dressing room.
“I’m very happy that my first days here went well and that I’ve been able to settle in. I want to prove at Schalke that I belong in the Bundesliga. I want to now get as fit as possible and take a positive mindset into what lies ahead.”
Leeds added Wober to their ranks in January 2023 but were relegated within months of the Austria international’s arrival.
The defender departed on loan for Borussia Mönchengladbach in the aftermath of relegation, later returning to play a bit-part role in Leeds’ Championship title-winning campaign.
He was loaned out post-promotion, only to see his season at Werder Bremen marred by injury woes.

Max Wober’s fresh start
He now has the opportunity to put a difficult period behind him after linking up with former Plymouth Argyle boss Miron Muslic at the Veltins-Arena.
Wober said: “The club have an incredible history and tradition. What’s more, head coach Miron Muslic’s playing style appealed to me right from the start. Things couldn’t have turned out much better for me.”
Leeds have managed to offload a number of fringe players this summer, moving Wober on alongside fellow defender Isaac Schmidt, goalkeeper Illan Meslier and winger Jack Harrison.
On the incomings front, the Whites have signed defender Tarik Muharemović from Sassuolo and winger Harry Wilson from Fulham.
