Leeds United: Outgoing Christiansen hails 'precious treasure' fans

Thomas Christiansen has paid tribute to Leeds United's fans, hailing the club's supporters as a "precious treasure" five days after he was axed as the club's head coach.

Christiansen parted company with the Whites last Sunday evening after Saturday's 4-1 loss at home to Cardiff City at Elland Road left Leeds seven points off the Championship's play-offs after a return of just two points from a last possible 18.

The Dane was replaced by former Barnsley boss Paul Heckingbottom around 36 hours later with Heckingbottom now set for his first game in charge in Saturday lunch-time's Yorkshire derby at Sheffield United.

Christiansen said: "I did not want to leave without saying goodbye to you, the fans.

"You are the most precious treasure of this wonderful club. Managers, players, directors and presidents may change but you are the ones who remain, together and united.

"Your passion and requirement for success just symbolizes your strength. Thank you for all your support #MOT - Thomas Christiansen"

Radrizzani added: "Nice sweet thought Thomas, all the best and thank you."
