Leeds United transfer challenge mooted as Real Sociedad make 'major push' for Julian Brandt

A strong competitor for a Leeds United transfer target is said to have emerged

Leeds United reportedly face competition for the signature of Julian Brandt from La Liga outfit Real Sociedad.

Interest in Brandt from West Yorkshire has been well-documented and there has even been a visit to Thorp Arch made by the attacking midfielder’s father.

The 30-year-old is available to snap up as a free agent after seven years on the books at Borussia Dortmund, for whom he made over 300 appearances and registered 70 assists.

Although Leeds have been repeatedly linked with Brandt, it has persistently been indicated that competition for his signature is fierce.

‘Major push’ for Julian Brandt

TEAMtalk have now thrown Real Sociedad in the mix, claiming the Spanish club are making a major push to land Brandt on a free transfer.

Pellegrino Matarazzo’s men only finished 10th in the La Liga table last season but secured Europa League qualification by winning the Copa del Rey. The lure of the Premier League often proves strong, but so to does the lure of European football.

Sociedad are said to have accelerated efforts to sign Brandt, putting together a proposal described as ‘compelling’.

Leeds have experience of swaying high-profile players, however, and there is no indication they are out of the race for the 48-cap Germany international.

Leeds United in transfer hunt

Brandt would arguably be a huge coup for the Whites and a move to Elland Road would reunite him with Anton Stach, who he has played with at international level.

He would also be playing under a compatriot in Daniel Farke, who has seen his ranks bolstered by two new additions this summer.

Tarik Muharemović has joined from Sassuolo and Harry Wilson has made the move to Elland Road following the expiry of his Fulham contract.

The latter made his first appearance in Leeds colours at the weekend, stepping off the bench in a 3-2 friendly defeat to Wrexham in Florida.
