I got it wrong, admits Leeds United head coach Marcelo Bielsa

LEEDS UNITED head coach Marcelo Bielsa admits that he got the shape and structure of his side wrong in the first half of Monday evening's home game with Leicester City - on a night when the visitors scored two goals in each half to inflict a heavy 4-1 defeat upon the hosts at Elland Road.

The Foxes' dominant first-half performance saw Harvey Barnes net an opener after just 121 seconds following a mistake from Robin Koch and Youri Tielemens scored his first of the night after 21 minutes following another assist by the impressive Jamie Vardy.

United improved on the restart and were given hope when Stuart Dallas's cross evaded everybody before nestling in the net.

But late goals from Vardy - to crown his impressive showing - and a penalty from Tielemens secured a comprehensive victory for Leicester, who had threatened to run riot in the first half before being pegged back on the resumption.

Bielsa remarked: "I did not distribute the players correctly on the field (in the first half). And it was difficult for us to win the ball back and this caused us to defend poorly.

"In the first thirty minutes, we did not have the ball to give away and we allowed them to play out very easily and we couldn't get the ball back.

"In the second half, I corrected this error.

"We had an hour to attack with the last 15 minutes of the first half and the whole of the second half and we couldn't manage to cause any harm to the opponents' defence and we did not create enough chances given the amount of possession we had over this hour.

"We lacked impact and knew we were going to face a challenge like we did. The help I gave the players with regards to how we could defend and attack better, I didn't give.

A night which was not straightforward began with the news that Rodrigo would not be involved.

The Spanish international has been forced to isolate after being in close contact with a person who has tested positive for Coronavirus.

He will miss Saturday's game at Crystal Palace due to Covid protocols.

Meanwhile, Raphinha also missed the game with an ankle issue, but the issue is not a serious one.

On Rodrigo, Bielsa said: "There is a regulation in place for people who have been in contact with someone who has the virus.

"He will not be available for the game against Palace.

"And for Raphinha, I don't think it is an injury which will keep him out for long. It is not an injury which will take long to heal."

Meanwhile, Bielsa stressed he had no issue after being told that Pablo Hernandez - who started in place of Rodrigo - kicked a water bottle in frustration after being substituted midway through the second half.

The Argentine added: "No, I think not. If the reaction he had after I made the decision was to kick a bottle, what can I do?'
