Seven days previously, United had been ripped apart by Sheffield Wednesday in a 6-0 thrashing and boss Brian McDermott had demanded a response.

And they provided it, more than matching the visitors but spurning some glorious chances before Leicester snatched a late winner.

The hosts will wonder how they did not clinch all three points as striker Ross McCormack had a hatful of chances in the first half.

He hammered the post with one effort, was thwarted by Foxes goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel in a one-on-one and then saw a lobbed effort headed off the line.

At the other end, Jamie Vardy came closest to scoring for Leicester but saw his effort strike the post with goalkeeper Paddy Kenny beaten.

But the sucker punch came in the 87th minute, when David Nugent snapped up a late chance to steal victory.
