Leeds United prospect Kebbie joins Euro champs Barcelona - have your say

Leeds United prospect Elliott Kebbie has turned down the offer of a scholarship at Elland Road in favour of a switch to Barcelona.

The 16-year-old winger spent eight years at the Leeds academy at Thorp Arch but relocated to Spain with his mother earlier this summer after spending time at Barcelona’s La Masia training site.

Kebbie is understood to have already appeared for one of their youth teams.

A statement on Leeds’ official website said: “The club has retained its right to compensation should he choose to pursue a football career in Spain and sign for another club.”

Leeds received a reported £5m in compensation from Chelsea in 2006 after their recruitment of Thorp Arch-based trio Tom Taiwo, Michael Woods and Danny Rose while Everton paid the Yorkshire club an initial fee of £600,000, which could rise to £1.5m, for the then-England youth international captain Luke Garbutt in 2009.
