In the fourth game of Darko Milanic’s short tenure as the Whites head coach, the two sides cancelled each other out in a 1-1 draw. Chris Maguire opened the scoring for Wednesday, as he lashed home a strike from just outside the box early in the second half.However the home side, roared on by the crowd, rallied in an attempt to get an equaliser. The fans got their wish ten minutes before the final whistle. A composed half-volley from Giuseppe Bellusci meant that the final stages of the match were tense, but but both teams were unable to grab a winner.

Leeds United 1 Sheffield Wednesday 1 (August 17, 2013, Sky Bet Championship)

The Owls collected their first point of the season, ending a two-game losing run.The deadlock was broken by the visiting side, summer signing Kamil Zayatte looping a header over Paddy Kenny. Being the subject of interest from other Championship rivals, Ross McCormack showed why he had so many plaudits, when he equalised with a brilliant individual effort – voted goal of the season by the fans. The Whites managed to retain the services of the former fans’ favourite, who went on to become the top scorer in the Championship that season with 28 goals.

Leeds United 2 Sheffield Wednesday 1 (April 13, 2013, npower Championship)

This was the last time Leeds beat the South Yorkshire side at Elland Road. In Brian McDermott’s first game in charge, it was Wednesday who grabbed the only goal of first half. Jeremy Helan fed Jermaine Johnson, who calmly lofted the ball over the helpless Paddy Kenny. As the home crowd became restless, McDermott’s first half-time team talk brought about a change in fortunes. The former Wednesday loanee Luke Varney scored a quick-fire double, with two accurate headers. In their search for an equaliser, the Owls put immense pressure on the Leeds defence, who ultimately remained solid.

Wednesday’s last win at Elland Road came over eight years ago. They got off to the best possible start, with an early goal from Marcus Tudgay. Shortly before the break Chris Brunt made it 2-0, and Jermaine Johnson put them three goals ahead in the second half.Tudgay’s first-half display was overshadowed by his lack of discipline in the second period, picking up two yellow cards in four minutes. Wednesday had to tighten up in order to hold on to their advantage. They just about managed to do it despite Leeds coming very close. Lee Bullen’s own goal and one from Richard Cresswell caused Owls fans to bite their fingernails, but the Whites eventually ran out of time in the five-goal thriller.

Leeds United 3 Sheffield Wednesday 0 (January 21, 2006, Coca-Cola Championship)

In their second season in the Championship, this was the season United came closest to a return to top-flight football, falling at the last hurdle in the Play-off final. Wednesday, in contrast, spent much of this season looking down rather than up, successfully avoiding relegation. The result of this match mirrored each of the team’s seasons, with Leeds comfortably picking up three points. Irish centre-back Paul Butler opened the scoring in the 70th minute. Richard Cresswell then netted a brace, firing the Whites into third place in the league.
