Sidelined Rachubka should be loaned out, says former Leeds keeper Nigel Martyn

FORMER Leeds United goalie Nigel Martyn has said expects Paul Rachubka to be loaned out before being given another chance in the net at Elland Road.

Martyn said manager Simon Grayson was right to replace Rachubka with temporary signing Alex McCarthy as Leeds await the return of their first-choice keeper Andy Lonergan from an injured finger.

He acted after Rachubka’s performance in Leeds’s 5-0 drubbing by Blackpool. The keeper was substituted at half-time.

Former England international Martyn said: “It’s a difficult situation but it’s been handled in the right way.

“You look for a manager to do what’s best for the team as well as what’s best for individual players and Simon seems to have done both.

“I’m sure Paul was desperate to put things right, but when a goalkeeper’s had a particularly bad game or a bad run of games, he’s more vulnerable than usual.

“From Paul’s point of view I almost think the best thing he can do is to spend a month in training going back over the basics.

“After that I’d assume that he’ll go out on loan. It looks like the obvious move, just to take him away from Leeds United for a while and let him get his confidence up.”

Sidelined Rachubka was omitted from the Leeds squad at Leicester and will be absent again at Burnley on Saturday.
