According to TEAMtalk, the Whites are the latest club to take an interest in the hitman, who has been in electric form for the Bees since signing from Peterborough United at the end of last season.
Toney has 25 goals and nine assists in 33 Championship appearances for Thomas Frank’s men this term, and West Ham and Arsenal are also being touted as potential suitors.
The 24-year-old won’t come cheap though. It is understood that Brentford will demand around £30 million for their star asset, and will hope to keep hold of him if they manage to secure promotion to the Premier League in the coming months.
There's no doubting that Toney is a class act.
So far this season, his shot accuracy has been 1.5% higher than Patrick Bamford’s, while his dribble success rate has been 5.1% higher, as per Wyscout.
It's his efficiency in front of goal that really sets him apart though.
Toney has an xG of 0.55 in 2020/21, but has averaged 0.66 goals per game. That means that he is scoring 0.11 goals per game more than he is expected to.
Compare that to Bamford, for instance, who has 0.49 goals per game from an xG of 0.6.
There’s a reason why Toney is in such high demand...
Elsewhere, Leeds may have just edged ahead in the race to sign Argentine midfielder Rodrigo De Paul.
According to Udinese World, the resurgence of Christian Eriksen has meant that Inter Milan have cooled their interest in the player, while Juventus could baulk at the £34.3 million price tag that Udinese have reportedly slapped on him.
Liverpool and PSG are also keen, but again, it is suggested that their interest is not as firm as Leeds’.
All of that means that the door has opened a little for the Whites, who are now said to lead the race for the South American talent.
Again, it’s little wonder he is a wanted man.
As per Whoscored, he is the seventh-highest-rated player in Serie A at this present moment in time.
We’ve gathered the rest of this afternoon's Premier League transfer speculation below...
