Leeds United plot summer raid for Premier League talent, 'huge offer' tabled

Leeds United are a “real possibility” in the race for Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero this summer.

That’s according to Eurosport, who suggest that the Whites are eyeing up a move for the 32-year-old hitman.

City confirmed that the Argentine would be leaving the Etihad at the end of the season after a decade in Manchester, sparking a debate and widespread speculation over where he will be playing his football next year.

Leeds have been mentioned as a potential destination before, with 90min breaking the news that they held an interest in the player, but Eurosport have backed that claim up and expanded upon it.

They suggest that the Whites are a viable option for Aguero, but also warn that there could be considerable competition for his signature.

The South American’s boyhood club, Independiente, are also in the running, and are said to have tabled a “huge offer” to lure him back to his homeland.

Elsewhere, Noel Whelan has suggested that it would be “silly” for Leeds to not make an offer for Hibernian defender Josh Doig this summer.

The Scottish Sun have linked the Whites with the in-demand teenager, and the former Elland Road striker is all for a deal going ahead.

Speaking to Football Insider, he said: “You don’t have to look abroad all the time to find that gem. Sometimes they’re right underneath your nose and not too far away in Scotland. There have been some fantastic left-backs, you look at Andy Robertson at Liverpool.

“This is where the scouting setup comes into play. You’ve got to not just look abroad, you’ve got to broaden your horizons and see there might be something closer to home. They might actually be better and a better price as well because that’s important.

“We can’t be priced out of moves and £1.5 million for an 18-year-old who’s flying high in the Scottish Premiership?

“With other clubs looking at him, you’d be silly not to pursue it. Look at it a little bit further and watch him continuously between now and the end of the season.”
