Leeds United transfer news: Whites rival Arsenal and Sunderland for £1m transfer, Player exit could be 'closed later today'

Leeds United head coach Marcelo Bielsa may have ruled out late January transfer activity – but try telling the Premier League rumour mill that!

Speaking to the media ahead of the Whites’ 2-1 win at Newcastle United last night, the Argentine was clear over his transfer stance.

"It's not contemplated that we are going to bring anyone in and what you have just mentioned (Victor Orta proposing players) hasn't happened yet," Bielsa said on Monday.

"And I am happy with the squad that we have, I am comfortable with it and I feel we can finish this season with these players."

That said, Bielsa and Orta have always had one eye on the future talent, and the latest transfer link perhaps fits that bill.

Josh Doig of Hibernian, according to Goal.com, is attracting interest from Leeds, Manchester City and Celtic.

The 18-year-old fits the bill of someone who can strengthen the Whites’ academy and challenge for the first-team place in the near future.

We witnessed last summer similar deals being carried at Thorp Arch out with the likes of Sam Greenwood, Joe Gelhardt and Cody Drameh joining United’s under-23s.

Sean McGurk, the 17-year-old Wigan Athletic midfielder, is known to be on Orta’s transfer list, with a late move this month being touted. If not, then something could be revisited this summer when McGurk’s contract expires.

It is claimed Doig, 18, is available for just £1million, who, for his young age, has impressively made 16 appearances in the Scottish Premiership this season.

Leeds and Celtic could be better placed to sign Doig ahead of Man City with the report believing the pair would likely offer a faster route to first-team football.

Over the last few weeks, Doig has also been linked with a move to Chelsea, Arsenal, Sunderland and Stoke City.

Meanwhile, there is an update on Rafa Mujica’s future as he searches for a way out of his loan spell at Real Oviedo.

Here’s a round-up of some of the other transfer rumours involving Leeds and their top-flight rivals today:
