Marcelo Bielsa lauds match-winner Raphinha - and Victor Orta

LEEDS UNITED head coach Marcelo Bielsa lavished praise in the direction of match-winner Raphinha following his late winner at Goodison Park - and also shared out the plaudits with Victor Orta for bringing him to the club.

The Brazilian crowned an outstanding display with his first goal in English football - a deadly low shot which flew past Jordan Pickford 11 minutes from time to secure a precious 1-0 success at Carlo Ancelotti's Everton.

It was just reward for Raphinha, an £18m signing from with director of football Orta working hard to bring him to England.

As with Sunday's game with Arsenal, Leeds produced another highly-accomplished performance, but one which saw them again contrive to miss a stack of opportunities

But they eventually found a way through Raphinha to record a richly-deserved three points as Leeds won at Goodison for the first time since 1990 and moved up to 11th in the top-flight with just their second win in seven league matches.

Bielsa commented: "It was a very entertaining game. The result was a fair one. The performance of our team was a satisfactory one.

"It was very difficult to defend against their forwards who are very good.

"Raphinha has adapted very quickly to the Premier League. Victor (Orta) anticipated he had the characteristics to play in the Premier League. He was correct in choosing him.

"It was a victory which was very difficult to achieve. I think we played well.

"But to defend against a team with so many players who can unbalance is complicated.

"We have many players who can play in different areas of the pitch. Those who attack can defend as well, and those who defend know how to attack. This allows for the combinations.

"Raphinha is a player who can unbalance. He can play in any part of the pitch with resources to worry the opponent."

Lauding Raphinha's match-winning strike, Luke Ayling added: "He’s been doing a lot of that in training. I’m really pleased for him.

"It was an open game. We had that bit of quality for the goal. Straight afterwards the game became open and we probably could have scored a few more on the counter-attack. It was very good from us."
