ROB Jones could not have timed his long-awaited return any better.

The experienced defender had not played for Doncaster Rovers for seven months because of injury. But he bagged his first goal since August 2013 to help Rovers secure their first win in four matches.

Victory saw Rovers climb to 12th in the standings with just four games remaining, but any hopes of a play-off place look over now with the club 10 points off the top six.

Dickov made three changes to his starting XI, with centre-back Jones restored to the starting line-up after a long lay-off with injury.

Highly-rated midfielder Harry Middleton and left-back
Cedric Evina also started for the visitors as Rovers went in search of a much-needed win having not won in their three previous league matches.

After good chances for Kyle Bennett early in the action, it was the midfielder who provided the cross which Jones headed home to win the contest four minutes before the hour mark.

Rovers’ goalkeeper Stephen Bywater produced a string of good saves to keep the visitors in the contest, but Bennett and Johnson Clarke-Harris had good chances to add to Jones’s goal.
