Manchester United captain Harry Maguire arrested over alleged altercation with police in Mykonos

England defender Harry Maguire has been arrested in Greece followed an alleged altercation in Mykonos.

The Manchester United captain is alleged to have gotten into a fight with police on the Greek island last night, according to media reports.

Mr Maguire, who is Sheffield-born and has previously played for Sheffield United and Hull City, was pictured in a post on social media by his girlfriend Fern Hawkins on Thursday, alongside the caption, "Holidays with you".

Manchester United has confirmed it is aware of an "alleged incident" and released a short statement today saying it was co-operating with Greek authorities.

A spokesman for the club said: “The club is aware of an alleged incident involving Harry Maguire in Mykonos last night.

“Contact has been made with Harry, and he is fully co-operating with the Greek authorities.

“At this time we will be making no further comment.”

United players are taking time off after their Europa League exertions earlier this month.

The club were eliminated by Spanish side Sevilla last Sunday.

Maguire, 27, is the world’s most expensive defender, having signed for United from Leicester last summer for £80million.

In his first season at Old Trafford he was an ever-present in the Premier League, scoring one goal.
