The second tier of English football rarely fails to thrill and the nerve-jangling run-in has now arrived.
Coventry City clinched promotion to the Premier League at the weekend, getting over the line with a 1-1 draw at Blackburn Rovers, but there are two more spots in the top flight up for grabs.
Ipswich Town currently occupy the second automatic promotion slot after drawing 2-2 with fifth-placed Middlesbrough. Wedged between the Tractor Boys and Boro are fourth-placed Southampton, who were 2-1 victors at Swansea City.
Millwall are in third and secured three points at the expense of Queens Park Rangers. Hull City have the final play-off spot, although could not secure a much-needed three points as they had to settle for a 1-1 draw with Birmingham City.
Wrexham heaped the pressure on the Tigers with a 2-0 win over Stoke City and Norwich City kept their faint hopes alive by beating Bristol City 4-2.
Further down the table, Leicester City slid closer to relegation with a 1-0 loss to Portsmouth and West Bromwich Albion saw off Preston North End.
Sheffield Wednesday shared the spoils with Charlton Athletic, Sheffield United overcame Chris Wilder’s former club Watford and Derby County edged past Oxford United.
