Morsy: Preston were furious with his role in the dismissal of Browne and claimed he elbowed the Preston midfielder in the build-up to his sending off for retaliation. Sensibly brought off for his own sake at the interval by Warnock. 5

McNair: Produced some trademark crosses, but was not the influence he was on Saturday, while still being steady. The sight of him being treated at the far side of the pitch and immediately signalling to the bench that he wanted to come off was a worry. 6

Bolaise: Off the cuff and looked the one player capable of doing something different and certainly had his moments against ten men. His cross was sliced into his own net by Storey for the opener. 7

Kebano: Nice movement and plenty of gas and helped out Bola defensively when it was 11 versus 11. A livewire and went close to scoring and enjoyed himself. 8

Akpom: Unlucky not to score when his effort rattled against the crossbar, with Tavernier following up. 6

Substitutes: Tavernier (Morsy 45). Netted the rebound to make it 2-0 after Akpom hit the bar. 7

Saville (McNair 58). Quickly called for after McNair looked in trouble. 6

M Johnson (Bolaise 62). Spurned a good chance to add to Boro's lead. 6

Fletcher (Akpom 63). Made his return from injury. 6.

Mendez-Laing (Kebano 83).
