No sleepless night for Middlesbrough boss Neil Warnock

THERE was no sleepless night for Middlesbrough manager Neil Warnock after witnessing his side record a comfortable 3-0 Championship home victory over lowly Derby County - their biggest league win at the Riverside Stadium since August 2018.

After a disappointing and unfortunate 1-0 reverse to high-flying Norwich City on Saturday, Warnock admitted that he struggled to sleep that evening, such was his frustration at the result.

Boro, who have looked like a side transformed under the 71-year-old, cast aside the blow in resounding fashion to extend bottom club Debry's winless sequence to eight matches as the Teessiders moved up to seventh place in the Championship ahead of the weekend trip to one of Warnock's former clubs in Huddersfield Town.

Britt Assombalonga put Boro in front with a close-range goal on 33 minutes and Matt Clarke turned in substitute Marvin Johnson's cross to make it 2-0 on 71 minutes before sealing victory with a lovely curler six minutes from time.

Warnock, who handed a debut to recent signing Duncan Watmore, said: "I was pleased. I have never been as disappointed as I was for many, many years as I was on Ssaturday night. I couldn't sleep and I had about an hour's kip altogether.

"I was reading a book about two o'clock in the morning because I was just so disappointed because we should have beaten Norwich and they are probably the best side in the league at the minute.

"I was really disappointed and we then had an awkward game against Derby, who were bottom of the league etc. But I knew what their squad is like, it is a good squad.

"It was making sure I was on the top of my own job on the Monday morning when I came in and the lads have been fabulous.

"I could see they wanted to get on with it. Yes, we made a mistake, but let's get on and I thought the lads were super (against Derby)."
