Ratings - How Rotherham United and Middlesbrough players fared

HERE are the Rotherham United and Middlesbrough player ratings from Wednesday evening’s game at the AESSEAL New York Stadium.

AESSEAL New York Stadium.

Johansson: Judged to be in full control of the ball when Watmore ‘scored’ early in when he challenged him. Had a far worse moment for a legitimate goal when he fumbled a cross and allowed McNair to set up Akpom for Boro’s second. 5

Harding: Boro's front line posed issues. Sacrificed as the hosts pushed for an equaliser. 6

Ihiekwe: Had some difficult moments at times and is a player who is reassured with Wood alongside him. 6

A MacDonald: Picked a fine time to score his first goal for the club and made a key goalline clearance to deny Akpom. Did his best. 7

Sadlier: A surprise inclusion at right-wing back, but then switched to the left after Crooks’ dismissal. 6

Barlaser: Could not get into the game and was replaced at the interval. 5

Wiles: Deceived by Kebano for Boro’s leveller and struggled to have an effect. 5

Crooks: His night was curtailed after raising his arm when challenging Hall in the air. His stunned and perplexed reaction - from a player who is not dirty - suggested he was hard done by. Replays showed he caught Hall with his head and not an elbow and it was accidental. 5

Mattock: Provided the corner for the Millers’ breakthrough on his first-team return. Came off at break. 6

Smith: Switched to the right to work the channels and get through a spate of work after Crooks’s red. Thankless task. 5

Ladapo: Forced to chase lost causes and try and proviide a goal threat. Appetite was good and had a chance in second half. 6

Substitutes: Olosunde (Mattock 45). 6

Lindsay (Barlaser 45). 6 Booked.

Ogbene (Sadlier 71), 6.

Giles (Harding 75), 6.

Hirst (Smith 81).

Not used: Blackman, Wood, Clarke, Jozefzoon.

Middlesbrough

Archer: Little chance with opener. Kept out Ladapo in first half. Not much to do. 6

McNair: Set up the second goal after Johansson’s spill and showed no hesitation in getting forward when possible. 7

Hall: Substituted after falling in a heap following an aerial challenge with Crooks, which resulted in the Rotherham player’s controversial dismissal. 6

Bola: Steady in his defensive duties for Boro against a big unit in Smith. 6

Kebano: Posed a lot of problems with his quick feet, close control and pace. Set up leveller. 8

Howson: Moved into the backline after Hall departed. Typically cool and steady. Rattled the woodwork with a shot and with a second half header. 8

Saville: Involved a fair bit and scored a cracking equaliser. Booked. 7

Johnson: Started on the left and then switched to the right after Crooks received his marching orders. 7

Bolaise: Looked up for it and went very close to a couple of first half goal with rebounds, the second clipping the bar. Influential. 7

Akpom: Came in for a bit of treatment, but posed danger for the Millers. Unlucky when his effort was cleared off the line by MacDonald. But eventually got his goal - his first since January 2. 7

Watmore: Another to pose issues for the home defence. Saw an early goal controversially ruled out. 7

Substitutes: Malley (Hall 24). Showed no lack of confidence on his league debut. 7

Coburn (Bolaise 87).

Not used: Bettinelli, Hackney, Kokolo, Robinson.
