The business end of the Championship season has arrived and tense battles are playing out at both ends of the table.
England’s second tier is renowned for its twists and turns and there have been plenty of late. Last night (April 14), relegation-threatened Portsmouth defeated promotion hopefuls Ipswich Town 2-0 at Fratton Park.
Pompey moved above Oxford United and West Bromwich Albion into 19th, putting the former into the drop zone alongside Leicester City and already-relegated Sheffield Wednesday.
Blackburn could not pull off a shock away at Southampton, succumbing to a 3-0 loss at St Mary’s.
At the top of the tree, Coventry City are on the cusp of promotion on a tally of 85 points. Behind them are Ipswich, who could still be caught by the likes of third-placed Millwall, fourth-placed Southampton and fifth-placed Middlesbrough.
Hull City, who were beaten 2-1 by Sheffield United at the weekend, occupy the final play-off spot as it stands.
That could change, as Wrexham and Derby County are at the front of the chasing pack with eyes on a late surge into the top six.
Following the latest results, data experts Opta have deployed their supercomputer to predict how the final Championship table will look.
