Middlesbrough submit bid for Rotherham United's Dan Barlaser but Matt Taylor insists Millers keen to keep midfield star

Middlesbrough have submitted an offer to Rotherham United for Dan Barlaser but it is ‘nowhere near’ the £900,000 offer that has been reported.

Reports emerged on Friday that the Millers had rejected a from Boro bid for the midfielder, who captained Rotherham during their remarkable 4-0 win over Blackburn Rovers on Saturday.

According to the Rotherham Advertiser’s Paul Davis, Millers boss Matt Taylor confirmed after the victory that their Championship rivals had made an offer but that it was not in the £900,000 region.

Rotherham are keen to keep Barlaser until the end of the season, despite the player entering the final months of his contract at the New York Stadium.

Last month, Barlaser said his focus was on turning Rotherham’s form around amid interest from Middlesbrough. He has been offered a new deal at Rotherham but as it stands there has been no indication that he has signed on the dotted line.

"We have got many months until the end of the season. I need to speak with the Mrs as well as she is the boss,” Barlaser told BBC Radio Sheffield last month when questioned about his Rotherham future.

"I have said it before, I don't really think about that until later on. I just focus on trying to play well for Rotherham and trying to get wins. We will see. If the deal is right, I will have a good think about it."

Barlaser was born in Gateshead and joined the Millers permanently in 2020 after spending the 2019-20 season on loan at Rotherham.
