That is the message to a host of off-contract Millers players from interim manager Paul Warne, who believes that the club will garner plenty about their playing squad in the coming games, with relegation highly likely to be mathematically confirmed this afternoon.

It remains to be seen if Warne will be chosen as the man to rebuild the Millers in the long-term – with a decision on the club’s next permanent manager expected on Wednesday.

But that has not stopped talks taking place regarding a raft of players whose deals expire in June, with others also expected to depart in a major summer overhaul as the club gets ready for life in League One.

Lee Camp, Kelvin Wilson, Joe Mattock, Richie Smallwood, Stephen Kelly, Richard Wood and Joel Ekstrand are among those whose contracts end, while Tom Adeyemi, Scott Allan and Carlton Morris will return to their parent clubs after loan spells.

Jonson Clarke-Harris, back playing with the reserves after a long-term injury, is another whose deal is up. Meanwhile, the club have yet to take up their option to extend Danny Ward’s contract for another 12 months, but Warne says that will happen.

On those players coming off contract, Warne, whose side are on a crippling seven-match losing sequence, said: “We have discussed all of them, but I don’t think we have been definitive about any of them.

“There are eight games left. It is also about whether they want to be here.

“Some of those lads might get offered deals they do not see as suitable. I am well aware of that. I know how the world works.

“I think it is not my decision to make yet. We have a different sort of policy here now and other people will play a part in the decision-making as well.

“And if someone else (a new player) was to come in, I am not going to offer three lads contracts and then someone else says: “No, you can’t have them.

“I also have to accept that this team have conceded a lot of goals this season and a fresh start is essential in the summer. I think we also need some fresh blood in, which means you are not going to keep everybody who is out of contract. But no player has been told one way or the other.”

Warne has confirmed that defender Ekstrand is out for the rest of the season after undergoing an knee operation, while loan midfielder Allan is currently not in his first-team plans due to a ‘family issue.’
