Oxford 4 York 0: Ex-Miller Jordan Bowery hits Minstermen's survival hopes

YORK City suffered a fourth straight defeat with this thumping at promotion hopefuls Oxford.

The Minstermen’s relegation worries intensified following goals from Jordan Bowery, Cheyenne Dunkley, Danny Hylton and Kemar Roofe.

Oxford dominated the opening period with on-loan Rotherham striker Bowery going close from the edge of the box after just two minutes.

He was not to be denied on the quarter-hour mark, though, using his thigh to force the ball over the line after City keeper Michael Ingham could only parry Callum O’Dowda’s 15-yard strike.

York’s only chance of the opening 45 minutes saw on-loan Middlesbrough striker Bradley Fewster volley well over after Dave Winfield had met Luke Summerfield’s corner.

Oxford doubled their advantage on 72 minutes when Dunkley headed in a controversially-awarded corner delivered by Kemar Roofe.

Hylton got the third three minutes later when he burst through the left channel and fired a low 15-yard shot past Ingham.

Top scorer Roofe wrapped up the rout on 82 minutes, tapping in after Ingham failed to hold on to Josh Ruffels’ strike to leave York in the bottom two.
