Rotherham United travel to Plymouth Argyle today for what could prove a dress rehearsal for the League One play-offs.

The Millers are guaranteed fourth spot while seventh-placed Argyle could break into the top six – at the expense of either Scunthorpe or Charlton – in their final two games of the regular season.

While there are no easy games in the play-offs, Rotherham do boast an impressive record against the Devon club.

You have to go back to 1999 for the last time Rotherham lost at Home Park – Dwight Marshall’s goal doing the damage – while Plymouth have not beaten the Millers since 2004.

That was when both clubs were in the Championship and since then the rivals have met in both League One and League Two.

Kieran Agard scored the winner on Rotherham’s last visit to Plymouth, in April 2013, with Steve Evans’s side going on to clinch automatic promotion.

Now manager Paul Warne takes his team to Home Park looking to maintain their impressive form – three wins and a draw in their last four outings – and head into the play-offs in good spirits.

“It could be any two of four really so it could be a dress rehearsal,” Warne said.

“I think we have to play these two games and enjoy them for what they are and try and take confidence from them with the form that we’ve been in and just go into the play-offs with a smile on our face.

“Potentially we could play Plymouth home and away so it’ll be good to get used to their pitch and the travel.

“It’ll be a great game. They’ll come out all guns blazing and they need a win, but sometimes it’s great to play like that because you’re thinking, ‘it’s all or nothing here lads, let’s just leave everything out on the pitch’ and you can go like that.”

Rotherham trained at Bristol Rovers yesterday having travelled down a day early to break up the long drive down to Devon.

“We’ll let the lads have a good stretch and go through a few set pieces and then finish the rest of the journey,” said Warne.

Following a team meeting last night the Millers were going to be given time, Warne said, to “rest up and get ready for another scrap.”
