'Positive' Huddersfield Town can do even better, says Carlos Corberan

Carlos Corberan said his Huddersfield Town side can play even better after sweeping aside Sheffield Wednesday 2-0.

The game was effectively done and dusted inside half an hour, and the Terriers were unable to maintain the same intensity after that, missing a second-half penalty through Juninho Bacuna.

It was perhaps understandable given the number of games they have played and still have to play, but the coach wanted more.

“The start of the game was very positive for us,” he said. “We played with a lot of determination, created top chances and started to control the game too.

“After the injury to (Jonathan) Hogg we lost a a little bit of control of the game. Even though they didn't create many chances we didn't have the control of the game we expect from the team.

“I think we started the second half really well, more aggressive, but unfortunately we missed the penalty.

“It gave us a strange feeling you needed to defend the result better when you need to go for more goals. In the last minutes the team defended well but we didn't attack enough.

“Always we expect a lot from the players and the team. Sometimes it is not easy when you are playing lots of games in a row and we had to perform well after two days' (rest) but the level of the Championship is not easy.

“We would have liked to play like we did in the first 30 minutes for all of the game but you can't always do that and when you don't, you need to defend well and this is what we did today.”

Josh Koroma and Jonathan Hogg went off injured in either half, and Corberan is more concerned about the latter.

Hogg “started feeling a problem in the groin and the muscle around the hip. He's a player with a lot of experience so he knew to avoid an important injury he had to come off.

“I don't think Hogg is going to take a lot of time to recover but I think Koroma will take a bit longer. We'll have to look at it tomorrow.

“He stretched the muscle a little bit so we will wait until tomorrow for the scan but I think it is going to take a bit more time.”

Demeaco Duhaney missed the game with a groin strain and Town were without centre-backs Richard Stearman and Christopher Schindler, so to have enjoyed back-to-back wins is no mean feat.

“Our academy has been working very well in recent years and when yo have a clear idea of your identity you can bring players in,” said Corberan.

“The first team has only received the work of the academy in the last year. It is improving the level and the style of play of the team. We needed to integrate some of the young players when we arrived and when work as a club with the same identity and the same ideas this transition is always easier.”
