Powell: We can put Leeds debacle behind us

HUDDERSFIELD TOWN manager Chris Powell is eager to move on from last weekend’s miserable derby loss at Leeds United - while insisting that a stack of work lies ahead to remedy the club’s poor start to the campaign.

Town head into Saturday’s home clash with Millwall, with just one league win to their credit this term, with the John Smith’s Stadium outfit languishing in the drop zone in the Championship.

Town’s problem have been particularly manifest at home, where you have to go back to March 1 for their last league win.

Looking forward after the 3-0 reverse at Elland Road and onto the here and now, Powell, who remains in the hunt for loan recruits in several areas where he feels his squad is deficient, said: “It obviously was not the best weekend for us, with the way we played and the result. But we have got to move on.

“That is one thing you have to do pretty quickly. I looked at a few areas I didn’t like and what we didn’t like as a staff and a team and you have to rectify it.

“I have had two good weeks with the players in regards to training and games and it is now about me assessing how we can move forward.

“Of course, I am getting to know them and get them to a place we are all happy with in terms of how we are and how we prepare.

“It is about what I think and what areas we need to improve and ones where we are ok. There’s a lot of work that lies ahead.”
